In covering the topics above, we generally follow the topics and lesson plans currently covered by the student's school. We want to ensure students have an excellent grasp of their current school topics for increasing grades and confidence. After appropriately pacing step by step instruction, we assess retention, verbally and written. We prioritize retention over speed, making sure students have a thorough understanding before advancing to other topics. We provide plenty of visual examples and encourage student participation in demonstrating newly acquired skills.
In summer (or if family requests general skill development and not following with school curriculum), we administer assessment exams to determine gaps in learning to be addressed. Many of our students are year round students and use the summer to reinforce skills, address gaps in learning, and/or pre cover the upcoming school year.
Due to the pandemic, we are conducting all of our 1-on-1 tutoring online. We have been able to transition from in-person tutoring to online tutoring and provide the same level of instruction while also saving families commute times. Many parents are hesitant to embrace online tutoring due to online learning challenges during the pandemic. We like to remind parents of the difference between online 1-on-1 tutoring and online classes. Online 1-on-1 tutoring has full engagement as there is 1 teacher and 1 student. The sessions are back and forth conversational flow, much different from the teacher talk student listen model of online classes.
When the pandemic is over, we look forward to resuming a hybrid of in-person and online tutoring.
Regularly scheduled students meet 1 hour once a week, 1 hour twice-a-week, 2 hours once-a-week, 2 hours twice-a-week, and more. A regular schedule ensures same time, day and tutor. Tutor by request is also available but the time, day and tutor will vary.
$55/hr. We also offer reduced pricing for low income families upon submission of income documentation.
